Are you looking for a way to help your community this New Year? Make a care package for a homebound senior! Last weekend, in honor of MLK Day, 50 teens and 21 volunteers put together over 100 care packages for Senior Citizens, Inc. The students were visiting Savannah as part of the Hemophilia of Georgia’s annual teen retreat. All the students have inherited blood disorders, and the retreat is a way for them to get together during the year to have fun, learn more about the blood disorders, and also build lasting friendships with teens just like them. The students wanted to do a service project as part of the retreat, and so they decided to do care packages for seniors. In preparation of their visit, HoG staff contributed items, one student held a drive for over 3 days at her school to collect items, many teens brought donations, and volunteers contributed as well. The donations included anything from healthy snacks, to shampoo, soap, and crossword puzzles. During the retreat, the teens organized the donations into neat care packages and decorated the outside of the bags with their artwork. The bags will be distributed to homebound seniors who receive Meals on Wheels.
Thank you HoG and the students of Camp Wannaklot for making a difference in the lives of Seniors!
